Happy Birthday Deby!!

Everyone wish Deby a happy birthday!!

This week of "vacation" has been nice, although it seems to be just our luck that both Jamie and I are sick. So we've been sleeping a lot; on OTC drugs a lot... At least we're not sick AND at work, I guess, right?

Ok, if you aren't from Minnesota, you probably won't find this funny. However, the Daily Show did a segment a week or two ago on the women's prison in Shakopee, MN which is my hometown. It is directly across the street from the elementary school I went to, and about 4 blocks from my parent's house. Anyway, there has been a debate because currently there is no fence around the maximum prison. The state wants to add a fence, but the people in Shakopee don't want to. Here's the link to the segment:

I think maybe why I think it's funny is the guy they interview (not the mayor) reminds me of my dad... Totally laughing out loud just thinking about it!

Jamie and I just got home - we have Bible study on Tuesday nights, and tonight a few of us went out for coffee afterwards. It was fun, but I wish that Dunn Bros. stayed open longer than 9:00. Although to be fair, they were super nice and let us stay until they literally were locking the doors. And then we stayed talking in the parking lot after the employees were gone! The study is a 2-year course (really 4-12 week "semesters", not quite as intimidating as 2 years!) on the book of Revelation. I am really enjoying it...I've always been fascinated by the end times.

So it's been about six months since we "left" the Army. Now, we didn't really leave because of anything other than distance - it is a 100 mile round trip to-from the corps and our house. It's weird, though. I was telling Jamie that I *love* going to Grace, and love that there are so many opportunities with a large (extremely large) church that aren't there with the Army. However, I miss a lot of things too; like knowing everyone, playing the piano/leading worship and seeing my parents among other things. (But my parents are coming to our Bible study, so I get to see them there!) But isn't it awesome to know that God works in all sorts of churches?

I am trying to stay focused on Friday - this week is sort of crazy at work, but once I hit Friday, then I'm off with Jamie for Spring break next week. We're not going anywhere - other than Duluth for the weekend - but it will be nice to have time off together. I haven't really had more than a day or two off since we moved into the house, and that wasn't exactly relaxing. It was exciting though. It's hard to believe we've been here for 6 months!

I love that Jamie is a teacher - he comes home with great stories at least once a week. One of the things that helps him get through especially tough days with his high schoolers is sarcasm. So on Friday, he made a sarcastic comment about something to his class, and one of his students asked him "Do you ever laugh?" in all seriousness. So, in all seriousness, Jamie says "No; I never laugh". Little do they know that they are the source of the majority of his laughter!

Here's another one from a couple of years ago - on days before holidays or spring break, when he knows the kids will be squirrely, he usually has them do puzzle worksheets. So this particular day, he was going through the answers at the end of class, and one of the questions was "Bob is a butcher. He is 6'4", has a size 36 waist and wears a size 13 shoe. What does Bob weigh?" So Jamie gives the answer, which is meat. Bob is a butcher so he weighs meat. But one of the kids pipes up and says "Wait, I don't get it - when he gets on the scale, it says meat?" He had to turn around and look at the board before he started laughing! That's right - the future of our country, ladies and gentlemen...

I wish I had funny stories like that from work - I guess I get a good laugh every now and then, but not as often as Jamie. However, I just found out in the last week that two more women on my team - including my boss - are pregnant. That means that 25% of our 20 person team is pregnant at the moment. I continue to drink bottled water...
